Greatness from Little Beginnings

It has often been said that greatness starts with little beginnings. Never despise the days of humble beginnings either. Do you have an idea that seems insignificant now because it is too grandiose for your current state of life? The starting point for greatness essentially involves two basic elements: an idea and taking practical steps towards its realization.

To start, you do not need to have everything figured out. If you did, then you would miss out on the learning process of what doesn’t work and what does, otherwise often referred to as “failures” and “successes.” The learning process determines whether you give up because of the numerous challenges or choose to adopt a resilient attitude and perceive every challenge as a stepping stone for the next phase towards achieving greatness.

Let’s examine some men and women who went ahead to implement their ideas with little or no funds and made history in the process:

Marie Van Brittan Brown was a Black woman who lived in challenging times with limited technological advancements. Yet, she developed a system that could alert her of invaders in her home while simultaneously informing the concerned authorities of a crime taking place, such as an impending theft, for example. Her idea laid the groundwork for the modern closed-circuit television system that is widely used for crime prevention, surveillance, and home security. Her tools consisted of a camera, a two-way microphone, monitors, and peepholes. Her idea greatly improved security. She received recognition for her efforts. What is more, she created this remarkable invention while working as a full-time nurse!

Garrett Morgan is another Black man with a brilliant mind who put his skills to work and produced one of the most significant and useful tools in the modern era, especially during the pandemic. He invented the first gas mask and later adapted it to carry its own air supply. This made it the world’s first effective gas mask. Like Brown, he also received acclaim for his talent. These inventions and many others are just some creative ideas realized by Blacks who lived in challenging times, and perhaps barely had enough funds to get started. Yet, despite their circumstances they brought forth inventions that are still very useful in our era.

At the Black Phoenix Ink, therefore, we want to inspire and encourage young talents in their pursuit of creativity, entrepreneurship, educational schemes, and sciences. We hope to nurture and guide these youngsters to believe in themselves and not fret about exploring any idea they think might positively impact the world. They are, afterall, the future.

It has been said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Black Phoenix Ink is here to encourage them on such projects.

We also remain open to partnerships, proposals, and collaborations. Reach us via our website and social media platforms at:
