Maxwell Anane
Oration was a big part of my childhood. Growing up in Ghana, stories of magic, animals and the infamous Anansi were shared around the fire. The practice of sharing spoken stories connected me to my African heritage. Knowing that my ancestors had listened to these same stories for generations grounded me in the strength and ingenuity of my culture.
Being privy to these stories also allowed for me to build foundational images of Black manhood. I saw myself mirrored in the heroes who always triumphed in the end because of their cleverness, courage, and strength of character. All of these stories solidified my belief that there is untapped inventiveness and intelligence abound in the Black race.
Our goal and vision is to connect every Black child of African descent with stories, poetry, folktales and fairy tales about the beauty of the 52 countries in Africa that has been lost, obscured or forgotten.
